university of pennsylvania; rhodes soccer venue

academic

Set in the shadow the Philadelphia skyline along the West bank of the Schuylkill River, Rhodes Field is home to the University of Pennsylvania’s soccer games and practice sessions. What was previously just a field is now a true stadium with a brick façade hosting elevated spectator seating for 650 and a suite box for alumni events, VIPs and the press. W+CO designed the new masonry elements to enclose the seating and serve as a defining edge to introduce a formal entry gate entry and approach path. W+CO’s improvements also corrected numerous environmental conditions that limited the field’s use. The stadium addition has greatly enhanced the atmosphere of Quakers games for athletes and spectators, boosting team spirit while improving sight, sound and quality of the athletic facilities. Construction costs for the project were $750,000.
