temple rock hall

academic

This project consisted of renovations and alterations to the 30,000-square-foot Rock Hall for Temple University’s new Esther Boyer College of Music. Before it was Rock Hall, this neoclassical structure was built in 1914 and served as the education building for Keneseth Israel synagogue. The synagogue itself burned down, and the university bought the building in the 1950s. It had been used as a dance studio, practice space for Temple’s rowing team, classrooms for the law school and a financial-aid office. The building’s transformation into a performance venue and Music Building created a music library, studios and classrooms for practice and instruction, computer-aided music studios, and renovations to the existing performance hall. The renovated 325-seat auditorium features surround-sound speakers, video projection system, motorized screen, Ethernet connectivity, microphones and audio cabling. Tony Weber worked on this project while with KieranTimberlake Architects.
